MY STORY ... My company

The Tall Lady, began from years of frustration trying to find clothes and shoes to fit me. I am six foot tall and have size 10 feet.

I started making my own clothes over 15 years ago. I have always been very fashion conscious and wanted to look good so I set about developing my own style based on fashions in magazines and on the High St.

I have started my clothes collection for you in the same way but in a very small way so that I can learn from you, my customers, what sort of things you like. My strategy is to ask every tall lady, regardless of age, just what problems they encounter when shopping and nine times out of ten, the answer is the same, ‘I just want normal clothes that fit and look good on me’

My range is limited now because I want it to develop and grow as I get to know my customers needs. I can do this because I am a sole trader and can call the shots on design and style and furthermore quality. I will never try and sell any item of clothing I would not be prepared to wear myself.

Shoes have even bigger nightmare because although I was able to make my own clothes or have them made, to try and get the shoes was a real challenge. Hours spent looking were just wasted, filled with disappointment and yet another pair of shoes I didn’t really like, I had them because they were sort of OK and nearly fitted. Size 8 is usually the largest and the choice always pretty limited. I hope to change all this for you with my website. My promise to you is to bring to you the sheer joy of being able to choose a pair of shoes from a large range of styles, colours I have in stock. I have only ever experienced this pleasure on my visits to the States and all my visits resulted in a serious baggage allowance crisis. I bought home 5 pairs of golf shoes as well as countless others on one of my forays!!!.

Things have improved slightly but still the choice for something special is just not there and most British Manufacturers offer us very little. In doing my research I learned that in 2001 the results of a survey by the British Footwear Association showed that 6% of the female population were a size 8 and above and getting larger. My heart went out to the 12 year old featured in the ‘Tall Teenager’ programme recently with size 11or 12 foot, and this situation is far more common than most folk imagine for a lot of youngsters.

I have tried to find an exciting range of shoes for all occasions, designer sandals, flats and pumps, elegant stylish shoes for business and work, sparkly evening sandals and shoes, all the ones you see in the fashion magazines. The ones that never do our size!!! My sizes start at 8 and go to 11 in all but a few styles. I have a special range in shoes and boots for the wider feet, golf sandals. My own range of golf shoes is planned for the very near future.

In my clothes range now are really fabulous trousers and tops, leather and suede skirts in 40” length, customised jeans in 3 different washes and just take a look at the bags and accessories!!!

My trousers and jeans start at 36 inch inside leg length and some I have in 38”and 39”
